Congratulations to all of those who have fought for our duty disabled first responders. We are happy to report that we have some good news! Our voices and concerns were heard. The punitive language that was directed at disabled first responders has not been included in the omnibus bill.
What does this mean? HF 1234 is now a stand alone bill and will have to be voted on separately, rather than as part of a much larger bill. This is great news, but the fight isn’t over until the punitive portion of this bill is gone.
What will we do next? We will continue to tell your stories. We will continue to contact all Representatives and Senators to let them know the impacts this bill will have on those we represent if it is passed with language that punishes disabled first responders. We will continue to monitor all lines, and continue to talk with shareholders on this bill to come up with solutions that do not harm our disabled first responders.
What is the timeline? We do not know for sure, but this change certainly buys us some extra time.
Now is not the time to rest, continue your efforts to educate your legislators and others. We must keep our guard up, and keep fighting this bill until it is no longer a threat to those we serve.
