What Is HF 1234 / SF 1959

HR 1234 / SF 1959 is legislation currently being brought forth in the Minnesota legislature which threatens the benefits of Minnesota duty disabled first responders.

We are in opposition of HF1234 / SF 1959 due to the negative changes being made that will devastate
first responders in Minnesota who have been physically and/or mentally disabled in the line of duty. We,
as direct stakeholders, have yet to have a seat at the table that is deciding our futures.

Thousands of individuals and families who have devoted their lives to their communities stand to be
victimized again by HF1234 / SF1959 as it is currently written.

We urgently need support. Not only from those directly impacted by this bill, but also those who stand
in support of our first responders. Disability is not a choice.

We will strongly stand against HF1234 / SF1959 as written due to the following:

  1. Line of duty disability benefits are being cut to the detriment of our disabled firefighters and officers.
  2. A line of duty disability is a line of duty disability.
  3. The numbers do not add up.
  4. Cutting the benefits of disabled officers and firefighters is discriminatory treatment.
  5. PERA and lawmakers have failed to represent us or allow us a voice as a stakeholder while all other interested parties have been involved.
