Some legislators use a contact form to receive comments from their constituents which has a 3500 character limit instead of providing an email address. You can copy and paste to the form from the sample letter which should come close to that 3500 character limit.
Try to be concise and to the point with your personal statements, it is best to keep the letter at one page and under 3500 characters.
Special Instructions for the Google Docs version of the Sample Letter. You will be sent to a shared version of the document which is in “view only” mode, you will not be able to edit it directly. Do not click on “Request edit access”, it will not be granted. To make a version of the letter which you can edit, and you have a Google Drive account, make a copy of the sample letter by going to the “File” menu in the upper left of the page, then click on “Make a Copy”. A pop up will appear asking you to name your copy, do so and click “Make a Copy”, a new window should appear with a fully editable version of the sample letter. If you don’t have a Google Drive account you can download a copy of the letter in a variety of formats by going to “File” in the upper left and clicking on “Download”.
